Overhaul - the Living Room (part 2)
In lieu of curtains this go around I want to use solar screen shades in the living room. These are made from fabric with 5% openness to let in the light. I don't want to fully block the city view. I would choose something darker to block out the sun for the bedroom (more on that on another post). These are from blindschalet.com. Prices start at about $50.00 and increase per size & quantity. They are available in a variety of colors and you can order a swatch for your reference. Also, they are LEED certified.

Overhaul - the Living Room
I'm in full search mode - well that's nothing new. But, I have a strong focus on a true project this time and that's furnishing a new condo. It's not actually bought but I like to plan ahead so that when the time comes I'll have all my cards lined up. Voila. So, in the next few postings you'll see what I'll been compiling these past few weeks.
This bold striped rug by Madeleine Weinrib is exactly the graphic punch I want in my living room. I'm not scared of some big stripes...bring it on.

I'm obsessing over grey stained floors. They can give off a beachy look or a totally contemporary feel. My boyfriend and I are going to roll up our sleeves on this project and give it a go when the time comes. I hope it turns out as well as these examples.
I want a sectional for the new place but something that isn't just your standard cookie cutter. I wanted something that had a little extra appeal. I fell in love with the Gus Modern Jane Bi-Sectional. It has beautiful tufting and comes in a range of neutral colors which fit my color palette. The sectional piece can be moved left or right which is great to suit the needs of your space.

Slick Cube
The modernist will no doubt have a cube placed in their home either as a decorative object or functional piece. There is no right or wrong to this - it's just a matter of preference. CB2.com has a new lacquered cube that's perfect as a side table or can be grouped in multiples to create a unique coffee table. Offered in white and red it will fit into most contemporary color schemes. The sleek surface makes cleanup a breeze. They are $199.00 a piece.

Graphic Lighting
This graphic chevron patterned table lamp by Jill Rosenwald is the perfect accent piece to add to your living or dining space. I like to mix different bold patterns in the same color palette. They actually don't compete with each other but work together as long as they share two identical colors. I love the feel of the navy and white colors and would add in a pop of red to enhance the nautical theme. It's just perfect for the summer. It's available for $395.00 at jillrosenwald.com.

Ikat Flooring
Ikat patterns are chic ethnic patterns that have be spotted in all arenas in fashion today. I've seen them in accessories, clothing, and home furnishings. Flor, the maker of the carpet tiles which are sold individually, has an ikat pattern which is perfect for the modern household. My favorite is the Cobalt blue color, which is pictured, but comes in other colors as well. The amazing thing about the Flor tiles is that you can use your own discretion to create the design you want. So, instead of the ikat you could do a bold zig zag or geometric design. At $13.99 a tile they are extremely affordable and can be customized to fit your unique space. Available at flor.com

It's Clearly Perfect
If you have kept up with my blog you will know that I love coffee tables. It sounds odd but there is just something about them that I adore. The Pascual Coffee Table from zgallerie.com is insanely gorgeous. The wood trim is treated with a distressed metallic finish to give it a rustic look. And the glass top and mirrored base are more contemporary which play against the wood. It's yours for $699.00.
